ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) - The Preservation League of New York State has awarded a $3,000 grant to an Albany museum for a fire prevention and suppression study.
The Technical Assistance Grant was awarded to Historic Cherry Hill, a home built in 1878 for Philip and Maria Van Rensselaer. The family lived there for nearly two centuries. The home became a museum after the last family member died in 1963. It's on the National Register of Historic Places.
Historic Cherry Hill has a collection of more than 70,000 objects and manuscripts accumulated by the family.
The Preservation League says fire is one of a house museum's greatest threats. The grant will help Historic Cherry Hill integrate best practices in fire prevention as it continues with a major capital restoration project.
