ALBANY - Jack McEeneny has dropped the gavel in the state Assembly for the last time.

The retiring assemblyman closed out the 2012 session Monday -- and his long career in politics.

Gaveling out the session has been the job of the Albany assemblyman for his 20 years in office. He does that when the Assembly is in recess, because the Capitol is in his district. It’s a formality performed so the legislature can reconvene without an order from the governor.

McEneny chose not to run for re-election. Patricia Fahey was sworn in Friday as his successor.
