BENNINGTON, Vt. (AP) - For the third time, voters in a Vermont community have approved closing a public elementary school and re-opening it as an independent school.
Last March, North Bennington residents voted at town meeting to close the North Bennington Graded School by the end of the year and then lease it to the Village School of North Bennington. But that date had to be postponed after the state Board of Education tabled the application for the new school.
In October, voters approved the change for 2013. But some opponents petitioned for a re-revote.
Residents approved the measure on Thursday.
The Bennington Banner reports the Village School still must be approved by the Board of Education, which is expected to happen at its Jan. 15 meeting.
