A few members of the 120 member troupe practiced for the competition to be held the weekend before President Obama is sworn into office on January 21st.

The band applied to be in the inaugural parade but wasn't chosen.

Still, the students will get to watch the President take his oath.

"It's exciting to think, to grow up and be, like, we were there and we saw it. different from being on your couch and watching it on TV," said Danielle DiCaprio, a bass drum player.

"We have the jazz band competition the marching band competition then the whole aura of the inauguration, everything combined. It's fantastic," said Allie Seyfried, who is  drum major.

There are five bands in the competition. Amsterdam will be competing against two of them in their division.

All bands will get a trophy and a special Inaugural patch.
