NY museum to hold free Civil War event

ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) - The State Museum in Albany is planning a free event centered on New York's role in the Civil War.
The event from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday will feature 15 state historic sites and cultural institutions that will provide hands-on activities, unique artifacts and information about upcoming regional events.
The Iron Jacks, a group that sings songs about sailors of the Civil War era, will perform throughout the afternoon. There will also be a guided tour of the Civil War exhibit.
Participating institutions include Grant Cottage, Watervliet Arsenal Museum, John Brown Historic Site, Shaker Heritage Society, Iroquois Indian Museum, Schoharie Crossing and North Country Underground Railroad Museum.
Also participating are Gerrit Smith Estate, National Abolition Hall of Fame, Olana, Thomas Cole Historic Site, Johnson Hall, Fort Crailo and the U.S. Naval Landing Party.
