President Obama says he will unveil his proposals to stop gun violence next week.
The president talked about that during his final news conference of his first term.
He acknowledged that strong opposition may prevent congress from approving all that he asks for, but he adds the issue isn't whether we believe in the second amendment.
"Are there some sensible steps that we can take to make sure that somebody like the individual in Newtown can't walk into a school and gun down a bunch of children in a -- in a shockingly rapid fashion? And surely we can do something about that."
The president is now reviewing recommendations from a task force headed by Vice President Joe Biden.
Whatever he does will likely include executive actions that don't require consent from Congress.
