How many times have you though you lost something, only to find it later in a place you never imagined?

It happened to a local firefighter, who was sure he lost something very precious at a fire scene.

It's a story that started last Tuesday night, and continued into early Wednesday morning.

There was a church fire in the Village of Philmont, and Claverack Firefighter Michael Cozzolino noticed his ring was missing.

“I still wanted to make sure I hadn't left it at home, little doubt in my mind,” he said.

But after days of searching at home, and even at that Philmont fire scene, his gold wedding band was no where to be found.

He felt terrible, but his wife was understanding.

On Monday night as Cozzolino was cleaning the treads on the bottom of his boots, he heard the sound of something hit the floor. It turned out to be the ring.

He figures it must have slipped off while he was pulling on his boots before the fire. Now that he found it, he figures it’s time to get it engraved.

The couple was married April Fool's Day in 2000. Now that there's a happy ending, Cozzolino hopes this is something they'll joke about for years to come.

“I had considered not wearing it for fear of losing it again, but my wife, Robin, had another opinion, and it's back on my finger where it belongs,” he says.
