SCHENECTADY - An 18-year-old Gloversville woman was arraigned Sunday morning on charges including attempted murder, assault and grand larceny.

Schenectady police say Desere Shaw stabbed her taxi driver, Derek Leach, on the corner of Eastern Avenue and Nott Terrace on Thursday, leaving behind a gruesome trail including small pools of blood.

After the stabbing, police say Shaw stole Leach's taxi.

"The vehicle was taken. The grand larceny charge stems from her stealing it during the commission of the crime," said Lt. Mark McCracken of the Schenectady Police Department.

Authorities say Leach called 911 and was found nearby at the Schenectady County Library. His injuries are not life-threatening.

The cab -- part of Gloversville-based Glove City Cab's fleet -- was found a few blocks away.

Police won't comment on whether Shaw was under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

Shaw's being held in the Schenectady County Jail. She could be back in court as early as Monday for a bail hearing.
