GLENS FALLS - They've been making beer in downtown Glens Falls for 17 years and business is so good, it's time to expand.
Davidson Brothers Brew Pub was started by brothers Rick and John Davidson in 1996 on Glen Street.
Saying their distribution has doubled in the last two years, they needed a place to make more beer.
So they plan to renovate a former multi-screen cinema on Route 9 in Queensbury, just south of the Great Escape amusement park.
The Davidsons will spend about $3.5 million dollars.
"We're really going to make it a tourist destination. Make it family friendly," said Rick Davidson. "We're going to develop our own line of soft drinks and do some other things in that realm and have a very large retail store, tour experience and tasting room.
Davidson Bros. has the equivalent of 32 full-time employees.
They'll add a 12-pack more at their Queensbury facility. Their hope is that the brewery will drive people to their Glens Falls location.
"They'll see the brewery. They're more inclined to come downtown, see the restaurant and then see the retail stores, the other restaurants, the theater and museum and the things we have down here and start discovering Glens Falls," said Davidson.
Davidson Brothers brews about 14-hundred barrels a year now. The new brewery will allow them to brew 10-thousand barrels a year, at the start.
They'll have room for even more if they need it.
Customers like Brennen Chavez of Clifton Park predict they will.
"I have a lot of stouts back in the Albany area and this is above all the rest," he said.
The Davidsons expect to begin production at their new place early next year.
