ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) - A New York military unit with roots in the 19th century Irish immigrant community will again lead the St. Patrick's Day Parade in New York City.
State Army National Guard officials say the 1st Battalion of the 69th Infantry, known as the "Fighting 69th," will be joined by the Army Guard's 42nd Infantry Division Band and members of the 198th Army Band of the Army Reserve for the event on Saturday.
St. Patrick's Day is also when the unit annually recognizes the achievements of its soldiers.
The 69th was in action during the Civil War, both World Wars and in Iraq and Afghanistan.
