ALBANY - SUNY Albany will go head to head against Duke in the Danes' first visit to the NCAA Men's championship in six years.
Fans around Albany were glued to their television screens as the brackets were revealed.
UAlbany fans have had a lot to celebrate this weekend.
The thrill of victory Saturday night against Vermont is still fresh on their minds.
Now, there's the prospect of an even bigger prize.
As selection results came in, many basketball fans had already made their predictions about where UAlbany would fall.
"It should be a 15. I wouldn't be stunned if it was 16. But I expect a 15," said college basketball fan Corey Hovak.
That's exactly where the Danes placed in the Midwest division.
Fans at Albany's Washington Tavern acknowledged the competition against Duke will be fierce.
"It's a daunting task but I think they can do it. Duke got upset last year so there is a chance," said UAlbany student Tom Carroll.
"They got [Mike] Black and Jacob Iati. Will Brown's done his best ever so it should be a great game," said fan Bryan Countryman.
"They're 15, and a 15 has beaten a 2 in the past so there's that chance," said UAlbany alum Kevin Baker.
At the Recovery Room in Troy, one UAlbany alum put the cautious optimism aside saying it's a win-win regardless of whether the Danes beat the Blue Devils in Philadelphia on Friday.
"Duke is Duke and we're up against them. They're the big dogs. But it's awesome. If you're going to play a team in the NCAA tournament, it's awesome that it's gonna be Duke," said UAlbany alum Kyrie Berkery.
"I'm hoping for the best: that they eliminate Duke, which would be great," said Jason Haupt.
