BOSTON (AP) - Former New England Patriots quarterback Drew Bledsoe is joining an effort to convince lawmakers to end a ban on out-of-state shipments of wine to Massachusetts.
Bledsoe, who now operates a winery in Washington state, plans to be at the Statehouse on Thursday to help push for passage of a bill that would allow Massachusetts consumers to order wine from other states on the Internet and have it shipped directly to their homes.
State Rep. Ted Speliotis, a Danvers Democrat who is sponsoring the bill, says the Bay State is one of the last in the nation to ban direct shipments from vineyards.
Bledsoe, who also played for the Buffalo Bills and Dallas Cowboys, co-founded Doubleback Winery in Walla Walla after retiring from the NFL.
