ALBANY - Albany detectives are investigating their first murder case of the year. The killing took place outside a Central Avenue bar at around 1:45 A.M. Thursday.

Those who knew Darzee Reid say he was going places. A 26-year old father from Troy, with a passion for hip hop music, and a flare for creative style at the Austin School of Spa Technology, where he was on schedule to graduate next month.

"It's very early in this investigation," says Steve Smith, an Albany Police Department spokesman. "Detectives are canvassing the area. They're interviewing witnesses."

At the corner of Central and King Avenues in Albany, relatives and friends have created a roadside memorial, dropping off candles, flowers, booze bottles, and a teddy bear next to a utility pole.

"My baby cousin is not about this," said Crystal Pope, Darzee's cousin. "He's a loving person. He didn't deserve this.

Pope says she'll always remember her cousin as a loving family man, an outgoing person, for whom no one had a bad thing to say.

"He's never into anything," Pope asserted. "He's not a gang banger. He's not a drug dealer. He's nothing by family oriented."

At 11:00 P.M> Thursday night, Albany Police had no suspects."
