WHITE PLAINS (AP) - State Senator Malcolm Smith entered a plea of not guilty Tuesday in Federal Court. Smith is a Democrat accused of offering to pay the GOP so he could run for New York City Mayor on the Republican Party line. According to the indictment, two party leaders accepted tens of thousands of dollars in bribes. New York City Councilman Daniel Halloran was also in on the plot. In all, six politicians pleaded not guilty and all remain free on bail.
