WYNANTSKILL – A family of five is in the hospital after jumping from a window to escape a fire in their Wynantskill home.

Authorities say the mother, father, two young children and an infant are all expected to be okay. They're at Albany Medical Center.

The fire broke out in their home at 15 Bellemeade St. just before 2 a.m. Friday at the home of Christopher & Karli Sydo. Neighbors saw the flames and called for help.

The assistant fire chief says Christopher leapt from second floor window. The mother, Karli then tossed the three children, including the newborn, to him before jumping herself.

While there is damage to the home, firefighters say it doesn't appear the home will have to be demolished.

Following an investigation, firefighters say the fire appears to have been accidental, saying an improperly discarded cigarette or ashes from the cigarette started mulch and the porch structure on fire.
