People gathered at Spitzie's Motorcycle Center on Central Ave for the launch of a motorcycle safety awareness campaign.
The number of motorcycle registrations has gone up steadily over the years, according to the state DMV. The Albany County Sheriff's Department hopes the program will get drivers to be more focused and aware.
"There are many dangers that the motorcyclist is exposed to. We want the motorist out there, all motorists to share the road properly and let everyone know the huge thing now is distracted driving. No text is that important that it can't wait. No phone call is that important that you can't pull over and make that call safely," says Lt. Kerry Thompson.
In 2011, there were 123 crashes in Albany County in which a motorcyclist was seriously injured or killed.
