Getting a massage and helping the Mohawk-Hudson Humane Society – it probably doesn't sound like activities that are related, but for the next few days, they are.

Bottom line, it's all about improving your health.

With strong, practiced hands Tiffani L. West ministers to the aches, pains and stress of her clients. Such is the life and delight of a massage therapist. “And once they feel the magic they're believers after that,” West says.

She's hoping to make more believers. So, she's happy to join the Mildred Elley massage school's participation in a national program called 'Everyone Deserves A Massage.'

The program is being held across the country this week, but Mildred Elley will extend it through the month. You get your choice of massage style.

“Mostly we get the Swedish massage which is our general relaxation massage, but we also have deep tissue. There's hot stones, there's sports massage,” says Belinda Green from Mildred Elley.

Along with the stress busting massage provides, research indicates massage helps lower your blood pressure.

Green recommends getting a massage at least once a week but if not at least twice a month. To entice you to do that, Mildred Elley partnered with the Mohawk Hudson Humane Society this month. If you bring a can of dog or cat food to the school you'll get $5 off your massage. When you examine the deal, it's a not really a strange pairing.

“Having a pet in your home lowers your blood pressure. Walking your dog gets you in better shape. It's been documented it's good for people's health to have a pet. So I think it's a great relationship. It's something we have in common with them,” says Brad Shear from the Mohawk-Hudson Humane Society.

This massage and Humane Society partnership runs through the month.

Massages cost $35 to $45 per hour. When you donate pet food at the school, you get the $5 discount.

The Humane Society has more than 400 dogs and cats waiting for adoption so your help is greatly appreciated. To make a massage appointment at Mildred Elley call (518) 786-3131.
