The controversial Plan B emergency contraception is now available without a prescription at a pharmacy near you.

The birth control, at the center of a months- long legal battle, hit pharmacy shelves today.

Anyone, regardless of age or gender, can now buy 'Plan B One Step' without a prescription.

The pill, however, does not end a pregnancy once a woman is pregnant.

This is something that's intended for unwanted pregnancy. It's really meant for those situations where someone gets into trouble, condom breaks, not really sure, maybe you didn't use birth control. This will help prevent a pregnancy if it's taken within 72 hours.

Experts also suggest talking to your doctor before taking it.

Pharmacists can refuse to sell Plan B if they have religious objections to birth control.
