The Department of Public Health (DPH) in Massachusetts is urging anyone who may have come into contact with a skunk at Six Flags New England in Agawam to contact DPH.

A woman who was visiting the amusement park on July 31 saw three skunks when one approached her and reportedly bit her on the foot. The animal was taken in and tested positive for rabies.

Anyone who visited the park and was bitten or scratched by a skunk between July 21 and July 31 may have been exposed to rabies. DPH notes that only people with direct exposure to skunk saliva are at risk.

Anyone with questions regarding the recommendations can call the MDPH, Division of Epidemiology and Immunization at (617) 983-6800.
