BALLSTON SPA - 19-year-old Zachary Currier was tight-lipped as he was led into court Tuesday afternoon.

In June, Currier pled guilty to raping a 14-year-old girl he knew. It happened in July of last year. Currier broke into her Saratoga Springs house through a window. He had a gun in his hand and told her he'd kill her if she didn't have sex with him.

"It was a horrendous act and he deserves a lengthy prison sentence," said Saratoga County District Attorney Jim Murphy.

The judge pointed out that Currier has been in trouble for most of his young life. He was also sentenced today for breaking into a home in Halfmoon and for conspiring with others to steal gasoline from more than 15 cars.

Currier apologized before the judge sentenced him to ten years. He said he was sorry for disappointing his family and friends. But he didn't apologize to the victim.

As Currier was led from court, NewsChannel 13 asked him if he was also sorry for the the victim. Currier said, "Sorry for lies." Apparently implying that the victim wasn't telling the truth about what happened.

Prosecutors say they aren't surprised that Currier didn't take responsibility for his actions.

"What Mr. Currier said today is of really no consequence to us. We forge ahead. We know that we've done the right thing for the victim of this crime---the young woman who had to endure his criminal conduct," Murphy said.

Currier was also sentenced to 20 years of post release supervision and will be required to register as a sex offender.
