GREEN ISLAND - Village leaders in Green Island are putting off a vote that could limit how many pets people are allowed to have.

The controversial issue was tabled at tonight's public hearing.

Mayor Ellen McNulty-Ryan is proposing the change to the village code.

It would limit the combined number of dogs and cats in a single household to three.

We spoke with one woman today who has fostered eleven dogs through the years, keeping them out of shelters and finding them permanent homes.

Margaret Bauer says, "Somebody that's responsible, they take care of their property, they take care of their animals, we're the people that it's going to hurt."

A village official told us if this becomes a law and people don't obey, they would face fines and/or jail time.
