GHENT - Dozens of animals are safe tonight after they're rescued from what are described as deplorable conditions in Ghent.
In all, 47 dogs, four birds and one cat were removed from the home.
The president of the Columbia Greene Humane Society says the conditions were among the worst he's ever seen animals survive in.
Feces covered the floor and many of the animals.
Among the breeds rescued: cairn terriers, Chihuahuas, Brussels, Griffons and Dachsunds.
All dogs and puppies will be available for adoption.
At this point, the animals' owner, Anderson Desouza, has not been charged.
