FORT EDWARD -Police have charged a 14-year-old with manslaughter, assault and reckless endangerment in the June 2012 shooting death of 13-year-old Gary Cota from Fort Edward.
Fort Edward Police say the boy was holding the 12-gauge shotgun when it fired and killed Cota inside his Keating Avenue bedroom.
NewsChannel 13 is not releasing the identity of the child who has been charged because the case will be decided in family court and not criminal court.
If the court finds the boy is responsible for his friend's death, the penalty could be as stiff as being placed in a secure facility, or as little as a conditional discharge or probation.
