COLONIE - There are many ceremonies in the Capital Region marking 12th anniversary of the September 11th terrorist attacks.
On this unusually hot morning, a tradition was carried on at Christian Brothers Academy in Colonie where the students led the ceremony. Marching in from all sides in front of their school building, seniors at CBA, dressed in full uniform, mark the anniversary with a flag-raising ceremony.
The moving ceremony helps to kick off the school year at CBA. However, this year the unusual heat was a challenge for some of the students dressed in full uniform. At least nine students either passed out or felt like they were about to pass out.
“I think just standing there for about a half an hour like we did, sometimes that will do it,” said James Schlegal of CBA. “Sometimes we’ll find these guys haven’t eaten breakfast, as teenage boys kind of forget to do sometimes.”
The ceremony had switched form the afternoon to the morning because of the heat. An ambulance was standing by and there was plenty of water on hand. All of the students turned out to be okay.
