HALFMOON - The town supervisor said she won't be going anywhere and now she won't be going to work.

According to sources with knowledge of the situation, Halfmoon Town Supervisor Mindy Wormuth submitted a note from a doctor's prescription pad, saying she's not to work for 30 days.

Sources say Wormuth didn't provide any explanation.

When NewsChannel 13 left messages for her Friday, Wormuth directed her secretary to call us back and she told us that the reason for Wormuth's 30-day absence is "something that's between her and her doctor." And she said Wormuth is "curious how you were informed."

Wormuth refused to step down from her roughly 70-thousand-dollar a year positions with the town and county when her Republican colleagues asked her to, but now her absence leaves both governing bodies in a bit of a jam. The remaining town board members are left to formulate a 14-million dollar budget by the middle of November.

And, Halfmoon will get no representation at the county level while Wormuth is away from the job for an unexplained reason.

Halfmoon Councilman Craig Hayner calls Wormuth's absence "another bump in the road," but says Halfmoon is "heading forward" with Wormuth out.

Alan Grattidge, Chairman of the County Board of Supervisors, says Halfmoon just won't get a vote on county matters while its supervisor is out.  Wormuth's role as chair of the county's public safety committee will be filled by the committee's vice chair.
