ALBANY - Verizon Wireless says cell phone towers have filled most of the former 80-mile coverage gap along the Northway between Albany and Montreal.
The wireless carrier says it has built and activated 11 new sites since 2008.
The Adirondack Park Agency, which regulates development within the 6 million-acre park, says it has approved 81 tower projects over the last four years.
In January 2007 a Brooklyn motorist slid off the road along the remote stretch of highway and died trying to escape the stuck vehicle, unable to get cell service and call for help.
