ALBANY - The City of Albany will have its first woman in the Mayor's Office.

Kathy Sheehan is a 49 year old former corporate lawyer.

Born in Chicago, she graduated from Albany Law School.

She and her husband Bob have a son. She was on the PTA at school 19 and they have a dog named Ozzy.

Supporters jumped to their feet to applaud the arrival of Kathy Sheehan to the Albany County Democrats party.

And in the same room where she accepted the Democratic endorsement a few months ago, she declared victory in the race for Mayor.

It was a crowded field of candidates vying to take over the job Jerry Jennings had held for the past two decades.

And he was there last night to congratulate Sheehan, who easily but not unexpectedly defeated Republican Jesse Calhoun and two third party candidates.

Sheehan, the current City Treasurer, says she's proud and humbled to earn the top spot at city hall.

And these celebrations Tuesday night will turn to changes for the city very soon.
