The Food and Drug Administration is warning of a troubling side effect for boys and men taking drugs to treat attention deficit disorder.
It stems from the chemical methylphenidate; the active ingredient in drugs like Ritalin and Concerta.
The FDA says the stimulant can cause priapism - painful and long lasting erections.
It can affect males of any age, even boys who haven't reached puberty.
The FDA suggests parents talk with young boys who are taking the drugs and describe the symptoms.
The fear is they may not understand what's happening and be too embarrassed to tell anyone if it occurs.
