Being overweight can take a toll on more than your body - it also hurts your wallet.
A new Duke University study shows patients' health care costs steadily rise with their body mass measurements.
Costs started to increase for those with a BMI above 19 - which is still considered in the lower range of the “healthy” category.
The costs more than doubled for obese patients with a BMI of 45 or above.
Researchers say excess fat is harmful at any level, and are stressing the importance of improving health and weight loss programs in schools and the workplace.
