SCHENECTADY- It was not a big fire, but more than a two dozen people will have to find an elsewhere to stay.

The fire broke out at the building on lower Broadway in Schenectady on Wednesday morning.

Firefighters say the fire was contained to one room on second floor.

They don't know if the sprinkler was working at the time.

The Fire Chief says the building hasn't been examined for sometime.

“This occupancy is a rooming house. They rent rooms, not really an apartment, a bed and a dresser, that’s about it. Its a transient population, there are about 25 people living here now. We are making efforts to move them to the city mission and some have already gone to Bethesda House to try and get them out of this weather,” says the Chief.

No one was injured.
