EAST GREENBUSH - We're told that Eileen Grant used to work in Supervisor Keith Langley's office.

We believe she sat at the reception desk, but she doesn't any more.

"I've seen the hiring and the firing practices and I think that will probably be costing us in the future," said town board member Phil Malone (D).

Eileen Grant filed a notice of claim against the town and her former boss, Langley.

Rather than wait for a scheduled meeting, the town board called a special session, then postponed it until 8:45 this morning where Langley and board members Matters and DiMartino voted against two no votes to authorize a 65-thousand dollar settlement; more than two years of Grant's pay.

The supervisor and his two supporters on the board resisted calls for employee relations training or even a postponement of the action.

The unusual morning session seemed very curious to a former Ethics Board leader.

It "made it seem like it was being done under the radar and with the goal being as little public attention as they could possibly get," said Jack Conway.

When we went to the Supervisor's office in early afternoon the door was open but he wasn't there. Neither was his new assistant, sitting where we're pretty sure Eileen Grant used to.
