LATHAM - Once busy Latham Circle Mall lost stores and closed, most of the mall was torn down. Now, after years of inactivity, construction has begun on new retail stores at the property.
With blue vested sales associates looking on, a Walmart boss talked of the coming superstore.
"We're going to expand our selection to our customers," he promised.
The nearby Walmart at Latham Farms will be closed. It isn't as big and has much less food for sale.
Along with some other new supermarkets nearby, it seems like we're getting a lot of food opportunities.
Maybe too many?
"Have you seen the parking lots?" Colonie Town Supervisor Paula Mahan responded. "They're all full. We have a large population here in town."
Construction is already underway where they will build the new Walmart, anchor for the Shoppes at Latham Circle.
It was the only store announced Wednesday, although developers say they plan a number of other choices as well for your spending dollars.
It will be the older style drive and park near the entrance shopping center, not a mall like the one that used to be on the site.
"I think that people like convenience," said Mark Hebert of Grossman Development Group. "I think that people like to be able to park and walk to the front door of wherever they want to go."
