State lawmakers faced a midnight deadline on Monday to strike a deal on legalizing medical marijuana.

Negotiations between the Cuomo administration and bill sponsors, Senator Diane Savino and Assemblyman Richard Gottfried began on Friday.

The Compassionate Care Act would allow patients with one of 20 diseases to be administered marijuana under a doctor's care.

A deal would have to be reached before midnight in order to be voted on before the legislative session ends later this week.
