SARATOGA SPRINGS - A 35-year veteran campus safety officer at Skidmore College is under arrest. Robert Gardner Jr., 62, is charged with sex abuse in the first degree and unlawful surveillance.

Gardner is accused of taking the clothes off a woman who had passed out from drinking too much and taking pictures of her private areas.

Police say it happened Wednesday afternoon. They say Gardner drove an intoxicated 28-year-old acquaintance to her home on Lincoln Avenue.

According to District Attorney Jim Murphy, Gardner and the woman had been drinking on Saratoga Lake for much of the day.

When they got to her home, he moved her into a yard and removed her clothing. Police say a neighbor witnessed Gardner using his cell phone camera to take pictures of the unconscious woman -- even posing her in sexual positions.

"This is an awful crime. The defendant took photographs of this woman's most intimate parts of her body. He allegedly took off her bikini bottom, spread her legs and took very, very, intimate close up shots of her,
Murphy said. “And I can't imagine what that must be like for her. For him it's resulted in two Class D felonies."

City Court Judge Jeffrey Wait released Gardner on his own recognizance.

Skidmore College has suspended him without pay.
